Immediate Relief in Everett

Why trust Sunrise Dental Everett for your dental emergency?

When severe dental pain strikes, many people consider visiting a hospital Emergency Room or urgent care clinic. However, hospital ERs rarely have a dentist on staff or specialized dental X-ray and restorative equipment—meaning they can usually only offer temporary pain medication or antibiotics and instruct you to see a dentist anyway.

At Sunrise Dental Everett, we diagnose and treat the underlying cause of your emergency right away. Whether you need a soothing nerve treatment to stop an agonizing toothache, recementation of a lost crown, an urgent tooth extraction, or immediate repair of a fractured front tooth, our doctors have the surgical and restorative expertise to resolve your crisis under one roof.

Same-Day Priority Emergency Appointments

When to Call Immediately

What counts as a dental emergency?

If it hurts, bleeds, swells, or prevents you from eating or smiling with confidence, it is an emergency to us. Contact our office right away for:

  • Severe, Throbbing Toothache: Sharp, lingering pain triggered by hot or cold, pain when biting down, or a constant ache that wakes you from sleep.
  • Swollen Gums, Face, or Dental Abscess: Visible facial swelling, a painful bump on the gums, fever, or a foul taste—signs of an active bacterial infection that requires urgent drainage and care.
  • Knocked-Out or Loosened Adult Tooth: Sports or accident trauma where a tooth is completely avulsed or pushed out of alignment; seeking care within 60 minutes can save the tooth.
  • Cracked, Chipped, or Broken Teeth: Fractures that expose sensitive yellow dentin or the inner nerve, or leave a sharp edge cutting your tongue or cheek.
  • Lost Crown, Missing Filling, or Broken Denture: Restorations that pop off or fracture, leaving the underlying tooth vulnerable to pain and fracture.

Emergency first-aid: what to do right now

After calling our Everett office at (425) 513-2000 to let us know you are on your way, follow these proven clinical first-aid steps to protect your tooth and ease discomfort:

Knocked-Out Permanent Tooth

Pick the tooth up by the white chewing crown only—never touch or scrub the root. Gently rinse with milk or water, slip it back into the socket if possible (or store it in a cup of cold milk or saliva), and come straight to our office within 30–60 minutes.

Severe Toothache or Facial Swelling

Swish gently with warm salt water to soothe irritated tissue and dislodge trapped food. Apply a cold compress to the outside of your cheek (15 minutes on, 15 minutes off) and take over-the-counter ibuprofen or acetaminophen. Never place aspirin directly on your gums.

Chipped, Cracked, or Fractured Tooth

Save any broken tooth fragments in a small container of milk or water and bring them with you. Rinse your mouth with lukewarm water and cover any jagged enamel edge with orthodontic wax or sugarless gum.

Lost Dental Crown or Filling

Locate your crown, rinse it gently, and bring it to your appointment—in many cases, we can sanitize and recement it. If needed, you can temporarily hold it in place with a dab of over-the-counter dental cement or toothpaste, but never use household superglue.

Broken Denture or Orthodontic Wire

Place all fractured denture pieces in a protective case and bring them to our office for professional denture repair. For a poking orthodontic wire, cover the tip with orthodontic wax until our team trims and secures it.

Frequently asked questions

Answers to emergency dentistry questions

Can you see me today even if I am a brand-new patient?
Yes! We welcome new emergency patients every day at our office ((425) 513-2000), serving patients from Everett, WA. Calling our office as early in the morning as possible gives us the greatest flexibility to fit you into one of our reserved same-day emergency slots.
When should I go to the hospital Emergency Room (ER) instead of an emergency dentist?
You should go directly to the nearest hospital Emergency Room or call 911 if you experience life-threatening symptoms such as difficulty breathing or swallowing, rapidly spreading swelling around your eye or down your neck, a suspected broken jawbone, head trauma/concussion, or uncontrolled bleeding that does not slow down after 15–20 minutes of firm gauze pressure. For all other urgent toothaches, dental abscesses, broken teeth, knocked-out teeth, or lost crowns, coming directly to Sunrise Dental Everett saves you hours of ER wait time and provides actual dental treatment rather than just temporary medication.
Will you perform treatment on the same day as my emergency exam?
In the vast majority of cases, yes. Our first priority at your emergency visit is to get you completely out of pain—whether that means numbing the tooth, performing an emergency root canal or pulpotomy, extracting a non-restorable tooth, recementing a crown, or repairing a chipped front tooth on the spot. If severe acute swelling requires a brief course of antibiotics before final surgical care, we will still provide immediate palliative relief at your visit so you leave comfortable.
My severe toothache suddenly stopped hurting on its own—do I still need to see a dentist?
Yes—this is one of the most important warning signs in dentistry! Unlike a bruised muscle, an infected tooth never heals on its own. When a severe, throbbing toothache abruptly goes silent, it usually means the nerve inside the tooth has died (necrosis) from bacterial infection. While the pain fibers inside the root canal can no longer send signals, the bacteria continue multiplying and spreading into the surrounding jawbone, which can suddenly erupt into a painful, dangerous dental abscess. Prompt root canal therapy can still save the tooth before swelling develops.
How much does an emergency dental visit cost, and what if it isn't in my budget?
We believe cost should never force you to endure dental pain. If you have dental insurance, we file claims with most major PPO carriers to maximize your benefits. Before any procedure begins, our treatment coordinator will present a clear, written breakdown of your options and help you apply for flexible monthly financing through CareCredit® so you can receive urgent care today and pay over time.
What if I have severe dental anxiety and am terrified of emergency treatment?
You are in the most compassionate hands in Everett. Many of our favorite patients first met us during an emergency after avoiding the dentist for years due to fear. We never lecture or judge—instead, we make sure your tooth is 100% numb before we begin and offer nitrous oxide (laughing gas) for immediate same-day anxiety relief, as well as oral conscious sedation and IV sedation.

If you are experiencing a medical emergency involving difficulty breathing, difficulty swallowing, or severe head/facial trauma, call 911 or visit the nearest hospital emergency room immediately.
