Nitrous oxide (laughing gas) Everett

Nitrous oxide (laughing gas)

A gentle, odorless gas inhaled through a comfortable nose mask during treatment. Nitrous oxide produces an immediate wave of calm relaxation and mild euphoria while numbing oral sensations. The sedative effects wear off completely within 5 minutes of breathing oxygen, allowing you to safely drive home.

Oral conscious sedation Everett

Oral conscious sedation

A prescribed oral medication taken approximately one hour prior to your scheduled appointment. Oral sedation produces a deeper state of drowsiness and peace; you remain awake, responsive to questions, and breathing on your own, but feel detached from treatment with minimal memory of the visit.

Frequently asked questions

Answers to common questions

Who is an ideal candidate for sedation dentistry?
Sedation dentistry is ideal for individuals experiencing dental anxiety or dental phobia, patients with very sensitive gag reflexes or low pain thresholds, those requiring extensive oral surgery or multiple crowns/implants in one visit, or individuals who have had traumatic past dental experiences.
What is the difference between nitrous oxide, oral conscious sedation, and IV sedation?
Nitrous oxide is a light inhaled gas that calms nerves and wears off within minutes, allowing you to drive home. Oral sedation involves taking a prescribed tablet that creates moderate drowsiness and deep relaxation. IV sedation, administered and closely monitored by our qualified dental sedation team, provides deep twilight relaxation where you sleep peacefully with little to no memory of the procedure.
Will I feel any pain or remember anything during my sedation appointment?
Under IV twilight sedation or oral conscious sedation, you will feel comfortable and relaxed throughout your visit. Local numbing anesthetics are gently administered after sedation takes effect. Most patients experience an amnesic effect, meaning you wake up feeling like only a few minutes passed with little to no memory of sounds, smells, or procedures.
Is dental sedation safe, and how am I monitored during the procedure?
Dental sedation is exceptionally safe when administered by trained professionals. At Sunrise Dental Everett, our doctors and qualified dental sedation team evaluate your complete medical history beforehand and use advanced multiparameter monitors to continuously track your pulse, blood pressure, oxygen saturation, and breathing throughout your visit.
Can I drive myself to and from my sedation dental appointment?
If you receive nitrous oxide alone, you can drive yourself home as the gas leaves your system in minutes. For oral conscious sedation or IV sedation, medications remain active in your body for several hours. You must have a responsible adult companion drive you to our Everett office, wait during your treatment, and drive you home to rest.
